Universal USB Installer – Install Linux from USB

Whenever someone asks me to install Linux for them I generally download the iso and make a bootable USB using Linux Live USB Creator .Today I found a new tool which also creates bootable USB Drives to install Linux and run Linux from the USB with persistence.

Universal USB Installer is a Live Linux USB Creator that allows you to choose from a selection of Linux Distributions to put on your USB Flash Drive. The Universal USB Installer is easy to use. Simply choose a Live Linux Distribution, the ISO file, your Flash Drive and, Click install. Other features include; Persistence (if available), and the ability to format the flash drive (recommended) to ensure a clean install. Upon completion, you should have a ready to run bootable USB Flash Drive with your select Linux version installed.

Currently Universal USB Installer supports a large number of Linux Distros. You can view the complete list here.

  • well,, i think it wont be that stable to use OS with Pen Drive.

  • the universal usb installer cant detect my iso file.. i downloaded the the ubunto, and i have nero and ultra iso installed in my pc, as well as winrar, the after i download the iso file. its automatically assign to be open to ultraiso, so it means my iso file become an ultra iso file, and the usb installer only detects iso, not ultra iso.. T_T help pls

    • After downloading the iso,do not try to open it.Run Universal USB Installer and select the downloaded iso within the program interface. You do not need UlatrsISO or Winrar to run Universal USB Installer.

  • I intalled Kubuntu 10.10 on a 8GB flash drive with this tool. Now, every time I boot from this flash drive Kubuntu asks me to either run the live version or install Kubuntu on the hard drive. This makes the start-up process take quite long. Isn’t there a way to install Kubuntu like you would install it on a hard drive? With a username and password etc… ?
I’m in the learning process of linux and I’m afraid to install it along other OS (on the hard drive) incase I mess it up :p
    Thanks!
